EMpower (Emerging Markets Foundation)
Overview: Emerging Markets Foundation or EMpower started in 2000, in an effort to help local communities amplify the emerging markets where they work. "The Emerging Markets Foundation is a global philanthropic organization that connects the resources of Emerging Markets (EM) professionals worldwide with the vitality of local organizations in emerging market countries." The end goal is improving the lives of people ages 10 to 24 who are at-risk. EM is currently working in Argentina, Brazil, China (including Hong Kong), Columbia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Turkey and Vietnam.
Funding Areas: EMpower supports organizations that use a gender lens to create change under programs called Livelihoods, Health & Well Being and Education. In education, they are particularly committed to addressing issues of at-risk youth including sexual identity. Grantees include the Network of Women in Growth (NEWIG) and the Girls Power In
