New York Women’s Foundation Announces Support for 6 Trans Orgs

The New York Women’s Foundation invests in six transgender, gender noncomforming, and non-binary (TGNCNB) organizations in recognition of Transgender Day of Remembrance

In recognition of Transgender Day of Remembrance, The Foundation is awarding $180,000 to six transgender, gender nonconforming, and non-binary (TGNCNB) organizations which showed strong TGNCNB leadership, were experiencing threats to their work in this current political crisis, bring a racial and gender justice lens, and presented a clear and realistic plan for action. Each organization will receive $30,000 to help fund leadership development, organizational capacity building, partnership development, and strategy development. These organizations are Black Trans Media, LGBT Center Intercultural Collective Inc., New York Transgender Advocacy Group (NYTAG), Sylvia Rivera Law Project, Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, Inc., and Translatinx Network.

While funding for TGNCNB communities have increased in the last five years, as of 2016, only three cents for every $100 awarded by U.S. foundations benefits TGNCNB communities. In December 2016, The New York Women’s Foundation launched Resilience-NYC, a $4 million, four-year initiative to support organizations with limited resources to better the lives of women, girls, and transgender/ gender non-conforming/ non-binary individuals in New York.
