Social Work School Receives Funding From Maura’s Voice

After the death of their daughter by shooting at a Hot Yoga class in Tallahassee, the Binkley family founded Maura’s Voice Research Fund. The mission of the fund is to research and understand the relationship between mental illness, hate and violence, particularly violence against women. FSU Medical School professor Dr. Nancy Van Vessem was also lost in the shooting, and four other women were wounded. 

Maura’s Voice, a foundation created to research and understand the relationship between mental illness, hate and violence, launched in March of 2019.

According to this article, “the shooting was determined by the Tallahassee Police Department to be a hate crime, with the victims targeted for no reason other than being women.”
