I Get Knocked Down, But I Get Up Again: Philanthropy Women Lives On

Sometimes it seems like I’ve tried so many times and so many ways to reimagine Philanthropy Women into a place where it would have sustainability and the opportunity to grow in its capacity to move the needle on women’s rights. So, for many of you who have followed Philanthropy Women over the years, I want to share an update that clarifies where things stand now:

Kiersten Marek, MSW, MBA, still here, still feminist, get used to it.

I didn’t disappear.
I didn’t give up.
And I still believe more than ever in the power of women’s giving to drive real systems change — the kind of change the world needs most.

Like many independent media platforms, PW has experienced both tremendous growth and real structural challenges. Along the way, I’ve explored multiple paths, including potential partnerships that could expand its reach and deepen its impact. One such opportunity remains in limbo, having moved from conversations to a detailed proposal. While nothing is finalized yet, I remain hopeful that a strong forward path is emerging.

In the meantime, this publishing pause has been one of regeneration and rethinking for me personally and professionally.

Over the last year, I completed my master’s degree in business and tried some new directions for how to best serve the women’s giving sector — through development consulting, advising funders on gender-lens philanthropy, supporting storytelling for women’s rights organizations, and getting the word out through organizational communication. Combining my experiences as founder and editor of PW with the new knowledge I gained in business school, I endeavored to use all the tools at my disposal to get deeper into the real world of feminist advocacy.

So I want to put a call out here, loud and clear: I’m open to consulting, collaboration, and creative partnerships — especially with funders, foundations, women-led organizations, media platforms, and impact initiatives that want to strengthen their gender-equity lens, storytelling, and philanthropic strategy.

And to potential partners who believe in what PW has stood for since its founding: if you see a future where Philanthropy Women can become an even more powerful engine for tracking, amplifying, and growing women’s giving — I want to hear from you. The next chapter will be built in collaboration.

Thank you to this community for staying connected — and for believing, as I do, that women’s philanthropy remains one of the most critical forces for shaping a more just future.
